2x2=Much Prayer?

Well. Today is Saturday. Today is the day that my wonderful friend Jenifer is 38 weeks pregnant. Today is the day in her pregnancy 5 years ago that she went into labor with Sweet Miss Ellie.

Today is almost the in her pregnancy when she went into labor with Little Mr. Ethan.

If history is any indicator of future behaviors, and it is, then I should be getting the phone call any day now.

See, Jenifer's family lives out of town. When she has a baby her other baby, or in this case babies, stay with me for a few days.

When she found out she was pregnant with Ethan a few years ago, she called me. I was driving through town when she asked me what I had planned for August. This was somewhere around February. I launched into this long spiel about kids starting school, yada, yada yada, when she finally (politely) interrupted and said "Well can Ellie come stay with you?" It took me a few seconds to catch on! This time she sent me an email that read "Can Ellie stay with you again in August? Can Ethan come too?" It was late at night, but I called her screaming anyway! Ha!
I waited a few months before telling my kids. Carlie, immediately went into planning mode! She was designing where everyone would sleep. And wondering would she be in school when the little ones came. Cam is excited, because for one week, he will be the big brother to 3 little siblings!

That's right. 4 children. Under my care. For 4 or 5 days.

Wow.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous. But, I am very excited. I love Jenifer's babies like they were my own. I know Miss Ellie will keep me on track. She always has. Jenifer was kind enough to put a list of Ethan's sayings on her blog for my future reference! But it has been a while since I had a two year old. More than five years, to be exact!

When Ellie was here two years ago my children were in school
. I got up and took them every morning while Ellie slept. When I'd get home she would always be sitting in the recliner with Britt, watching Handy Manny. Then she and I would get ready and go visit baby Ethan, Mommy, and Daddy at the hospital. I wasn't used to having a toddler. There were times that she and I would get in the car, and I'd realize I forgot the diaper bag. Or her "boppy". Or my purse! It's going to be a hoot with TWO little ones! If you see me in town with two small children, and no shoes, or mismatched shoes, or something crazy, you'll know why! ha!

Fortunately, I'm not a very high strung mama. Never too uptight. Not real worried about my house being perfect. As evidenced by toys, blankets, and games, strewn about my living room. I currently sit in the midst of it all. Blogging. Instead of cleaning! Don't get me wrong, I like for things to look nice. But I'm able to prioritize. I always said I didn't want my children to feel like they grew up in a museum. I want them to play in our house!
I'll clean it up when they move out. Which will be here before I know it, I'm sure.

We will be fine, me and my temporary 4 children. But if you think about us in the next weeks, say a prayer.

A prayer couldn't hurt.

Please say one for Jenifer too. It's never easy to be away from your children. Even if it is because you're having another one!

Much love,

Courtney

  1. I LOVE your post! I can't believe it's almost time. I've had some "stomach hardening"...Braxton Hicks like...no contractions. Maybe she's gonna hang in there until her daddy wants her to come which is the 10th or LATER! Mom has a wedding on the 8th and I think she is PRAYING her to wait! If my trip to Walmart today doesn't send me into labor nothing will! I am wo' out! Thanks for always loving on my babies. I know they are gonna' have a blast! Ellie is so excited to already be packing and getting ready. I think she is more excited to come to your house than the fact that she is about to have a new baby sister! Love you!

  2. What a sweet post. Didn't you love Ethan's sayings. Those babies are the sweetest, even if they are my grandchildren. I really appreciate you being there for Jenifer and Bryan and the youngun's, it takes stress off of them and me. I have seen all my grandbabies born and that has been so precious for me. Right now I am waiting to hear about a job, but they know Ruby Kate is due the 15th. My best friend's son is getting married the 8th and she would totally understand if Roo Kate came that day and know that I would be out of Prattville like a tornado. If I don't have a job, I can stay with the kids after the birthing or if Carlie and Ellie pitch a fit...I'll take Ethan and let him sleep in his bed. Thanks again for being such a fabulous friend to my girl. Georgia
