This week we had the Pumpkin and a Book Contest at the kids' school. Each classroom decorates a pumpkin to look like a book character. Sometimes the kids decorate it themselves, sometimes a parent does it. This year both of my kids' teachers were extremely busy with grade reporting for the 9 weeks and preparing for the Fall Festival (which was tonight). Needless to say, I volunteered to decorate their pumpkins.
Carlie's class wanted to do The Little Red Hen. That's the story they've been reading this week. So Monday afternoon Carlie and I went to the pumpkin "patch" at the Methodist church and then to Walmart for supplies. I spent the rest of the night...and some of Tuesday morning creating "Little Red". I think she turned out fabulously!!How cute is that?
The top pumpkin is turned sideways. The beak is the pumpkin's stem. The cone is make up wedges!
Cameron's class wanted to make a pumpkin that looked like Judy Moody. She is a little girl in a book series. The book they chose was
Judy Moody gets Famous.
So on Tuesday night we gathered all the things we needed for her. It was harder than I thought! I guess it was just me being me..but I didn't want to just make a head out of a pumpkin! That is just not interesting enough. Plus, on the book cover Judy is wearing a feather boa and a sparkly top.

I bought a plastic flower pot and covered it with shimmery fabric. And glued the pumpkin onto it with Locktite! I drew the face with a Sharpie and glued the wig and glasses on it!
It really looks alot like her!
Here is a copy of the book cover.
Don't you think so?
The school held a silent auction tonight on the pumpkins. 2 hours before it was over the bid on "Little Red" was already $25!
The bid on Judy Moody was $15 at the same time.
I'm so proud of my pumpkins! I love doing creative things like that!
The judges looked at them this afternoon. They give a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place to each grade. We will find out tomorrow!
